Great Headshot session with Theater Actress Viktorija Malina.
Viktorija has a very interesting and energetic personality, so it was a real pleasure to work with her. We had a lot of fun and came up with new ways of directing, so I even learned a few new tricks I will use in the future with other clients too! Thanks Viktorija :)
I usually just shoot headshots in colour, but Viktorija wanted the following one in black and white too. So I made a black and white conversion and this a good opportunity to compare both side to side:
I do love black and white photography. Portraits can feel more timeless and are more about the person itself, rather than their e.g. colourful clothing. In other pictures shapes and light can have a lot more impact.
Having said that I believe headshots should be in colour nowadays. Back in the days, when colour film was more expensive and difficult to develop, headshot photographers would mainly offer black and white headshots. But now in the digital age that is not necessary any more. Especially for casting directors it is important to get as much information as possible in a headshot, and that includes skin tones, eye and hair colours.
